WHO CAN APPLY?
FIRST YEAR STUDENT TEGKOR BURSARY REQUIREMENTS:
Are you a Grade 12 learner who meets all of the following criteria?
- In 2023, you will be admitted to the Nelson Mandela University’s BCom Accounting and BCom Accounting Sciences programmes for the first time.
- You have excellent academic results in Grade 12
- An Applicant Score (AS) of 420 and higher OR
- 80%Â and more for Mathematics
You qualify to apply for a bursary from the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary Fund if you meet all of the above requirements.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
- Learner must be a South African citizen;
- Bursary amounts of up to R12 500;
- Students will only receive a bursary during their first year of study, which will be credited to their student accounts.
- If you declare it on your application form, you may use this bursary in conjunction with other bursaries and awards (e.g. Nelson Mandela University Scholar Merit Awards);
- Financial need will be given preference as defined by the “missing middle” category of students intending to study further but who do not already qualify for free higher education (family income above R350,000 but below R600,000 – proof needed).

SENIOR STUDENT (2nd & 3rd YEAR) TEGKOR BURSARY REQUIREMENTS:
Would you like to apply if you meet the following criteria as a Nelson Mandela University student?
During 2023, you will be studying towards the second or third year of the following programs:
- BCom General Accounting
- BCom Accounting (Chartered Accounting)
- BCom Accounting Sciences
Academic results in 2022 are above average (i.e. first-year modules over 70%, second-year modules over 65%).
In 2022, you have documented evidence (i.e. testimonials) that you have made a significant contribution to society.
It is important to note that the social commitment component is evaluated based on evidence gathered and submitted by the applicant. The following information should be included in the letter:
- Description of the project(s);
- Period that you were involved in each project;
- Specifically, how the project(s) changed the lives of the beneficiaries.
- The number of people that benefited from the project(s).
- NOTE: STUDENTS WHO HAVE APPLIED PREVIOUSLY NEED TO REAPPLY.
You qualify to apply for a bursary from the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary Fund if you meet all of the above requirements.

POSTGRADUATE STUDENT TEGKOR BURSARY REQUIREMENTS:
Currently enrolled at Nelson Mandela University and meet the following criteria?
Studying towards one of the following programs in 2023:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA);
- Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA); or
- Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA).
In your third year of your undergraduate program, your weighted average must be 60% or higher OR in your PGDA program, your weighted average must be 55%.
NOTE: STUDENTS WHO HAVE APPLIED PREVIOUSLY NEED TO REAPPLY.
You qualify to apply for a bursary from the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary Fund if you meet all of the above requirements.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
- Learner must be a South African citizen;
- Bursary amounts of up to R7 500;
- Bursary will be credited to the recipients’ student account;
- This bursary can be used together with other bursaries and awards (e.g. Nelson Mandela University Scholar Merit Awards) – if declared on your application form;
- Preference will be given to financial need as defined by the “missing middle” category of student intending on studying further but who does not already qualify for free access to higher education (aggregate household income above R350,000 but below R600,000 – proof to be submitted).

- Bursaries will only be allocated to full-time students.
- Bursaries are only awarded to South African citizens.
