The WHO Global Internship Programme for 2023 is now accepting applications!
A diversity of future leaders is one of the priorities of the WHO, which leads global public health issues.
In the Internship Programme at WHO, students and recent graduates have an opportunity to gain insight into WHO’s technical and administrative programs and gain experience and knowledge in a variety of fields, thus contributing to the advancement of public health.
Who is eligible for an internship?
Age: You are at least twenty years of age on the date of application.
Education: The course you are enrolled in leads to a formal qualification (undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate). It is either related to WHO’s technical work in public health, medicine, or social work, or it is related to management, administration, communications, or external relations.
A candidate who has already completed a formal qualification may qualify for consideration for an internship if they apply within six months of the completion of the formal qualification.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required prior to starting the internship (bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Languages: You are fluent in at least one of the working languages of the office of assignment.
Family relation: You are not related to a member of the WHO staff (e.g., son/daughter, brother/sister, mother/father).
Nationality: You hold a valid passport of a WHO Member State.
Other: You have not previously participated in WHO’s internship program.
Benefits of the WHO Internship Programme
The World Health Organization provides medical and accident insurance to all interns during the internship period.
The intern is solely responsible for obtaining and maintaining insurance coverage before the start of the internship and after the end of the internship, including travel to and from the duty station.
Also, WHO provides living allowance to eligible selected interns who need financial support.
Candidate obligations BEFORE an internship offer is extended
- An intern must be available to work full-time for six (6) to 24 weeks, depending on the needs of the WHO technical unit.
- In order to be considered for an internship, interns must provide proof of enrolment in a course of study or proof of completion of their last qualification.
- In their declaration of interest, interns should disclose any circumstances that might give rise to a conflict of interest related to the activity in which they will be involved during their internship (financial support).
- The WHO medical certificate of fitness for work form must be completed by interns before they begin their internship.
- Documents should not be sent until specifically requested by an intern.

You must apply through the internship vacancy notices posted on the WHO Careers website using the WHO online recruitment system (Stellis).
