Predict South Africa Inflation Rate And Win US$20,000 With RMB

Predict South Africa Inflation Rate And Win US$20,000 With RMB: A tradition value system. Ideas that are innovative? Why not both? is the answer at Rand Merchant Bank (RMB).

We encourage you to use your unique talent to solve a traditional problem in a creative way.

RMB and Zindi are predicting South Africa’s inflation rate using alternative data in cutting-edge machine learning algorithms.

Zindi is an African data science community that solves business and societal problems using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

About the competition

  • It is open to anyone who has experience with data modeling or who wants to build a machine learning model for the first time.
  • Enter as an individual or, better yet, as a team. In addition to this exciting opportunity, RMB is visiting your campus to tell you more about our young talent programs.
  • In addition to getting exposure to RMB’s Winter School, participants in the Zindi competition may also get exposure to the Zindi competition.
  • One step closer to being selected for Minds That Matter’s graduate program.

What we need from you?

  • In this assignment, you will have to estimate South Africa’s inflation rate based on its Consumer Price Index (CPI). You can choose how you want to do this.
  • In your model, would you like pollution to be an input? Let’s do it. It sounds good to us too that satellite data is available.
  • Innovative approaches are better. We will provide all participants with a starter notebook with base data.

How do you win?

  • In March, the competition launches, so you have time to build and test your first prototype.
  • A prize will be awarded for the most accurate prediction of the CPI every month from May to September.
  • Not only do we consider your forecast’s accuracy, but we also examine it across CPI’s sub-categories like food and beverages and housing.
  • Your model might need to be tweaked every month to ensure accuracy – if it performs poorly one month, you might need to add or change inputs the next. The Zindi leaderboard keeps you on top of your game.
  • The final prototype must be submitted in September, and will be tested until November. Following that, winners will be announced and final prizes will be awarded.

What do you win

Our overall final prize category is US$20,000, split into monthly prizes and overall final prize categories:

  • Based on accuracy in total CPI and subcategory levels, first and second places were awarded.
  • Solution that works for South Africans
  • Innovating in the most effective way

How do you enter?

  • In addition to Zindi, a facilitator will be involved in the challenge. Please click here to register and remember to use RMB as your reference when you register.
  • Here’s a video that describes how to build an inflation model using Nowcasting CPI. Zindi’s team is available at [email protected] for any inquiries
