Sasol is recruiting and inviting graduates and final-year university students to apply for the Engineer-In-Training Programme 2023 (Control Engineering).

ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB

A graduate development position is available for this position. A graduate development program (GDP) consists of a three-year training period in Operations and Technology.

You will be assessed every six months to demonstrate your competency development and identify areas that need improvement.

After three years, you will be eligible to apply for Engineer positions that become vacant after you are declared competent. Vacancies may be available (subject to availability).

FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS

  • Understanding of Sasol’s value chain (including Operations, Technology (Engineering, Project Management), products and applications, test methods and equipment in context of discipline learning.
  • Become familiar with the Sasol Operations Standards Framework and how to operate within it.
  • Apply theoretical knowledge in a practical manner to add value to your business.
  • Understand the importance of planning and integration.
  • Develop skills in using engineering systems, tools, and standards (local, national, and international) in your own work.
  • Identify your business unit’s place in the Sasol value chain and your Operating Hub.
  • Understand the impact of upstream- and downstream units on the operation of your allocated plant and vice versa.
  • Gain a solid understanding of [discipline] engineering generalist knowledge and process equipment (e.g. design and safe operation thereof).
  • Acquire detailed knowledge of defined areas of [the discipline] engineering.
  • Utilize the right indicators in order to define a business opportunity.
  • Be able to define business risks, applying the business risk assessment tools such as the probability risk ranking matrix, specific job risk assessment, etc.
  • Support the execution (follow technical instruction to enable) of an engineering scope of work for small multidisciplinary projects (i.e. Tier)
  • Support and follow instructions to execute the operation, design, engineering, development and/or modification of processes/equipment in accordance with sound established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements.
  • Analyze small projects, ideas, and modifications from a technical and economic perspective.

Qualifications and experience required 

The position requires a minimum of a Control Engineering: Bsc / BEng Electronic Engineering or Post Graduate Engineering degree (Chemical Engineering) with a focus on Process Control.

Final year applicants will be considered.
