Undergraduate study programmes close on specific dates in the year preceding the year of study for both South Africans and international citizens.
To ensure your application is submitted on time, please refer to the list of closing dates provided below. As soon as you submit your online application, a student number (EMPLID) will be emailed to your email address as confirmation of receipt as soon as your application has been received. You must have internet access and an email account that can be accessed regularly.
Application Fee Waived:
- In the case of students with household incomes below or equal to R150 000 per year, application fees are waived at the University of Pretoria.
- Online applicants are required to upload proof of income at STEP 12 of the application process. As proof of payment, this will allow you to verify your application and submit it. It will be verified that these documents are authentic.

To use the Online Application System you will need the following:

- In order to confirm receipt of your online application, a student number (EMPLID) will be emailed to this email address as soon as it is submitted.

- Faculty of Veterinary Science: 31 May
- ALL other faculties: 30 June
General Application Information
- In the year preceding the year of study, the UP application period opens on 1 April.
- There is only one online application required for each prospective student. The University of Pretoria offers you the option of choosing a first and second preference for your course of study on the online application. When filling out the online application, applicants should select a first choice and a second choice.
- Your online application will be processed once you receive an enrollment number (EMPLID).
- The University of Pretoria has not yet accepted you as a student by giving you a student number (EMPLID). Upon evaluation by the relevant faculty, your application goes through a separate admission process.
- The best course of action is to complete your own online application. Representatives, agents, or agencies are not used during the application process at the University of Pretoria. In the event that you decide to utilize representatives, agents, or agencies, you do so at your own risk. Your personal email and postal addresses must be provided so that University of Pretoria can communicate with you directly.
- Please visit the “Distance Education” web page before you apply for Distance Education admission (Faculty of Education). Regulations differ depending on the situation.
- It is important to note that if you wish to study BSc(Arch)(Architecture) or BSc(Int)(Interior Architecture), you must indicate them as your first choice on your application, otherwise you will not be considered. In addition, it is recommended that you list the other selection programmes as your first choice on the online application.
